Our Costa Rica Honeymoon
8.6.24 - 8.16.24

Our Itinerary
-
Flew into Liberia
-
Booked transportation with Jacamar from Liberia airport to Tabacon; 3 hour drive
-
Stayed at Tabacon for 5 nights
-
Day 1 we stayed at the resort and got dinner at Tucanes (we did the tasting menu…highly recommended doing this one night it was delicious)
-
Day 2 we booked the Hiking Lovers (Hanging Bridges + Fortuna Waterfall +Volcano Hike) with Jacamar - We did the private tour (no group). This tour is very long and a lot of walking but it was very cool, saw lots of wildlife.
-
Day 3 hung out at the resorts hot springs
-
Day 4 booked the Río Celeste Waterfall - Rainforest Hike with Jacamar - lots of stairs and can be muddy if its rainy. I think it was about an hour drive from the resort. This is a popular hike to see the very blue waterfall and lagoon. I believe we were there at an off peak time, so there weren't many people on this hike. We were told by our guide that this can get very busy and the stairs to get to the waterfall can get packed.
-
Day 5 Hung out at resort hot springs
-
Day 6 headed to second resort (Andaz), Booked transportation with Jacamar (3 hour drive but this resort is 30mins from Libera Airport)
-
-
While at Andaz (5 nights); We were able to book with credit card points. They offer all inclusive; I think it was around $250/300per person per day (I don’t think you can pay for this with points).
-
We didn’t do any excursions, we just hung out at the resort
-
They have 4 restaurants
-
They have a private beach/small pool/restaurant that you can either take a boat or shuttle to
-
They also have electric bikes you can use to explore the area
-
They have a golf course, nature/bike trials
-
You can also take a shuttle to the Four Seasons and get dinner there
-
It was rainy season while we were there but I think we got pretty lucky with the weather. Most mornings were clear and then rained a little in the evening. There was only one day that there was a big storm while we were at Andaz; Thunder and lighting for around 2 hours.
It wasn’t very busy when we went, I think because it was during the rainy season. So the tours we did weren’t packed which was very nice.
The food was amazing at both resorts. The breakfast buffet at Tabacon is included with your stay and was so good. Andaz they have two different places you can get breakfast, Rio Bhongo or Ostra. Ostra you need special access too, which they gave us I think because we were on our honeymoon. Ostra was a cool experience but we think the food at Rio Bhongo was better; They had more traditional Costa Rican dishes.
Bring a poncho if you plan on doing tours incase of rain
Maybe bring water shoes too
Also highly recommend having a tour guide whether you’re doing a group tour or a private tour just because they point out things that you would never even know or look at when you’re in a rainforest and they pointed out like sloths and other animals that are in the trees.
One thing we also noticed was that at both resorts there wasn't really a late night bar/lounge to hangout at. There was one pool bar at Tabacon that some people were at after dinner but it's not near the rooms and I don't think it stayed open later than 10pm (I could be wrong about this lol). It also might've just been a slower time for both resorts.
If you do plan on drinking at Tabacon it can get pricey....we might've bought some duty free alcohol and ordered Mocktails and spiked them 🤫 They had a lot of mocktails and they we even around $16 from what I remember.
